As I posted in my last blog, I have been praying for peace and contentment. It says in Luke 11:9 - So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. So I have diligently prayed for peace and contentment, and as promised in the good Bible, I feel that God has already started answering my prayers.
One of the things that my family is so very used to is having a filled calendar with all kinds of events to attend and spending wonderful family time together. I have always been a firm believer that too much time with nothing to do will cause bad attitudes and mischief, especially with a house full of boys. I had an elderly role model tell me one time "Be glad you have boys, but plan on keeping them busy with positive activities or they'll keep you busy with disciplining their bad behavior if they have too much time on their hands".
With that said, during a conversation with my husband a few nights ago, we decided we needed to start filling our calendar with positive activities to do. We feel that doing this will not only keep everyone busy, but it will also (hopefully) give us the opportunity to meet other like minded friends / families, keep our minds off how hard it has been adjusting to the new area (along with the horrendous weather), our minds off how much we miss the old base, and hopefully start having a love for our current geographical location. Plus we will (hopefully) get to see some new sights and do more fun / family activities. (Other than sitting around the house for days on end), AND it will help our time here go by just a tad bit faster.
Doesn't all this sound wonderful? Why, yes....yes it does.
Well, that is, unless you are the one having to come up with all the activities, in a town that doesn't offer activities. Ok, so that means to start getting a bit creative. Ummm....I have absolutely, positively NO creative juices in this body. If I am creative, it's because I found it on the internet (or pinterest). It is by NO MEANS my own personal idea.
Now mind you, we can travel to surrounding areas over an hour away, but all that costs money, and my husband and I are truly trying to pay off debt that we have accrued over the past few years. (off topic note: I HIGHLY suggest Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover") So going "off for the weekend" and such is not a good idea for us financially.
So now....NEW adventure: To find free / inexpensive / creative events and / or activities for our family to participate in to fill up the calendar.
....Guess I am off to find "event planning" activities for the upcoming week.
(If you have any ideas, feel free to leave them below in the comments section)
